Description:

This will be an hands-on play therapy session involving directive play therapy strategies aimed to help children identify their strengths, express difficult emotions and build a stronger sense of self. We will begin with the basic play therapy tenets and progress to complex cases. You will come away with an array of strategies, actual card games, art, resources and brand new play therapy ideas! 



Objectives:

• Demonstrate examples of the eight tenets of play therapy
• Identify the various stages of play therapy through role-play
• Demonstrate favorite non-directive play therapy strategies from each participant
• Participants will demonstrate and give rationale for favorite play therapy interventions  

Presenter: Sonia Hinds, APRN, PMH-BC, RPT-S™ 

Sonia Hinds, APRN, PMH-BC, RPT-S™ is the Founder and CEO of Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars. and Founder and Executive Director of Barstow Acres Children’s Center, a non-profit practice providing children's mental health services. She is a 24-year military veteran having served 5 years in the Army Nurse Corps and 19 years with the US Public Health Service as a Commissioned Corps Officer. Ms. Hinds is trained in Gestalt Play Therapy with Violet Oaklander (retired) and Child-Centered. She also authored chapters in Play Therapy in the African-American Village and Cultural Issues in Play Therapy, edited by Eliana Gil, PhD, RPT-S™ and Athena Drewes, PsyD, RPT-S™. Ms. Hinds received the MD/DC APT 2019 Outstanding Service Award. 

Cancellation Policy:

Written notification of cancellation must be received in our office at least 10 business days prior to a training for a refund. A $25.00 cancellation fee will be deducted from the refund. There will be no refund for cancellation notification less than 10 business days.

CBPS reserves the right to cancel a training due to inclement weather or insufficient enrollment. In the event of such cancellation, you will receive a full refund. 

Cancelling your Zoom meeting registration does not constitute cancellation of your CBPS session registration. Please refer to our cancellation policy in the training announcement, which supersedes all other mentions of options to cancel your registration.

LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS

Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars (CBPS) has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 5763. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. CBPS is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs. 

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGISTS 

Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars (CBPS) is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists to offer professional development for school Psychologists, provider #1067. CBPS maintains responsibility for the program. 

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGISTS  

The Maryland and Washington, DC Boards of Psychology Examiners Recognizes national Association of School Psychologist approval status with CBPS and grants CE hours to clinical psychologists in Maryland and Washington, DC.

Art Therapists (LCAT, ATR-BC) may obtain CE Hours based on our NBCC approval status.

CBPS is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s Board of Social Work, Provider #0122; and the Board of Mental Health Practitioners, Licensed Mental Health Counselors. CBPS is also approved for psychologists in NY Provider Number: #PSY-0070.
