Policies:

ADA Accommodations:    Reasonable accommodations will be provided by Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars if requested by phone or email at least 3 weeks in advance of the workshop.

Cancellations:

Participant: Written cancellation must be received in our office at least ten business days prior to the training.  If we receive notification within 10 business days, you will receive either a refund or voucher, minus a $15.00 processing fee.  If we do not receive notification within the 10 business days, you will not receive a refund or voucher.

 Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars reserves the right to cancel a training due to inclement weather or low attendance.  In this event, CBPS will provide you with a full refund.  In the event of inclement weather please check your email for CBPS notifications/instructions and/or voicemail phone system.

Change of Instructors:     CBPS also reserves the right to change instructors if needed to ensure an effective training.  In the event that this takes place you will be notified with the change as soon as possible.

Grievance Protocol:     Please contact Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars via email (cbps2006@gmail.com) or phone (240-535-1433) and we will send you our Grievance Report document for you to fill out and send back to us.  On this form we will need you to provide basic contact information as well as a detailed description of the grievance you wish to report.  All reports will be reviewed, responded to, and appropriate measures will be taken to address any concerns or issues you may have with CBPS, its staff, or training materials.

CE Certificates:     Certificates are emailed through a service called We Transfer 14 days after training is complete provided the participant paid in full, registered with accurate information, documented attendance as instructed (ie, signing in and out of in-person trainings, logging in on webinars, etc.), and completed the workshop evaluation.

Use of Art to Understand Child Development in Play Therapy

This workshop is designed for: Social workers (LCSW, LMSW, LISW, BSW, AAW), psychologists (Ph.D, Psy.D, Ed.D), school counselors, school psychologists, licensed counselors (LMHC, LCMHC, CMHC, LPC, LCPC), marriage and family therapists (LMFT, LIMFT), art therapists (LCPAT), play therapists, occupational therapists, graduate students, and others in the mental health-related field.

Course Description:

This workshop will review several theories of child graphic developmental theories and look at how these can reflect cognitive, social and emotional milestones for children in play therapy. Clinical evaluation of children using the “Art Experience” will be experientially explored. Case examples and art techniques for various age groups/clinical populations will be presented and discussed. Additionally, this workshop will discuss principles of play therapy and how to integrate art in play therapy

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify various graphic developmental theories in relation to child’s cognitive, social and emotional development in play therapy
  • Describe children’s art in play therapy from a developmental perspective
  • Demonstrate and practice child related art techniques from a developmental perspective   
  • Demonstrate how to integrate art in the play therapy process.     
  • Identify procedure for storing and safe keeping of children’s art work in play therapy
  • State guidelines to share with parents regarding discussing child’s art work at home

Presenter: Peggy Kolodny, ATR-BC, LCPAT

Peggy is a  trauma-focused Licensed and Board Certified Art Psychotherapist and is a  graduate of George Washington University with a Master's in Art Therapy (1982). She is the co-founder of the Art Therapy Collective, a private practice in Owings Mills, Maryland. Peggy holds level 2 certificates in EMDR and in IFS, making her one of the few art therapists practicing an integrative approach with advanced training in both these models. As adjunct faculty for University of Maryland School of Social Work, Peggy teaches an advanced clinical course on Art Therapy. She recently joined the faculty of Notre Dame of Maryland University’s newly launched Art Therapy Graduate program. She teaches workshops nationally for several professional training institutes.  Past experiences include President of Maryland Art Therapy Association (current board member), Chairperson of Central Maryland Sexual Abuse Treatment Task Force, Vice-chair of the Maryland Chapter of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children. Past academic positions include adjunctive faculty of Maryland Institute College of Art and Goucher College. Currently, Peggy is engaged in writing several professional chapters on trauma-informed art therapy.

SOCIAL WORKERS

Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars (CBPS) is approved by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners to sponsor Category I continuing education programs. Social Work Boards in most states accept this approval status. 

LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS

Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars (CBPS) has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 5763. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. CBPS is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs. 

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGISTS 

Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars (CBPS) is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists to offer professional development for school Psychologists, provider #1067. CBPS maintains responsibility for the program.

The Maryland and Washington, DC Boards of Psychology Examiners Recognizes national Asspciation of School Psychologist approval status with CBPS and grants CE hours to clinical psychologists in Maryland and Washington, DC.
