Description:

This training is to help clinical professionals gain a better understanding of what dual relationships, multiple relationships and boundary-crossing could be in the counseling relationship. All too often, these definitions are not clear and there is little guidance offered on what may be considered dual or multiple relationships. This training aims to help provide some guidance in navigating the counseling relationship while using case studies to investigate the impact of dual and multiple relationships. Implications for play therapists and those working with young children will be included.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define dual relationships using various credentialing bodies, including play therapist
  • Identify various types of potential dual relationships including those related to children
  • State the definitions for multiple relationships, boundaries, and how to set boundaries
  • Using case studies, participants will be able to investigate possible dual relationships
  • Describe common potential situations in which play therapists may become involved in dual relationships
