Learn play therapy techniques and social skills techniques while working in our camp. <br />

Camp dates: Mondays through Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.<br />
June 22 - July 17, 2009<br />

Registration ends May 29th.<br />
<br />
We accept youth ages 5 to 13 years old with mild behavioral problems, attitude problems, and mild out-of-control behaviors, or self-esteem and confidence issues, who might respond to redirection and kindness, and would benefit from social skills training, positive peer interaction, anger management group, and character building. <br />
<br />
Camp activities may include field trips within the county. Activities will include storytelling, reading and journaling; arts and crafts; board games; dancing; singing; and psychoeducational group.<br />

Sign up for summer camp. Kids ages 5-13 will enjoy all of our activities. Camp runs daily Monday through Friday for 4 weeks. Cost is $200 per week with a $25 registration fee.Registration is attached. Please spread the word. <br />

During the course of the day children are engaged in social skills training, anger management, therapeutic yoga, sports activities, art therapy, Brain Gym®, pet therapy, music, dance, field trips and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. Our staff consists of licensed therapist, art therapist, yoga therapist, college interns and volunteers. <br />

Announces Spring Social Skills/Parent Coaching<br />
Schedule for Children and Teens<br />

Barstow Acres Children’s Center in Prince Frederick announces its Spring schedule of classes. Beginning Wednesday, April 15, 2009, for children ages 4 to 8, and Thursday, April 16 for teens, age 12 to 15, Barstow will offer Social Skills training, which includes: identifying personal strengths, coping skills and anger management, communication skills, conflict resolution, and much more. As the training for the young people occurs, parents are involved in Parent Coaching sessions that include: understanding and identifying the goals of behavior, communicating effectively, discipline using consequences (rather than rewards and punishments), creating a positive family environment, and more.<br />
<br />
Art therapist, Denise Weller, and parent educator, Becky Lebow, are the instructors. The program, based on what they call “The Barstow Model,” has been effective in turning around behaviors in the home and helping parents bring sanity back into their homes when things may have gotten off track. Weller and Lebow are trained to work with families who are dealing with ADHD, Autism/Aspergers, and other challenges.<br />
<br />
Sessions will run for 6 weeks. The cost for the program is $240.00. Barstow does not accept insurance, but funding may be available through various agencies. Call for details.<br />

Through group participation, children are taught specific skills that will help them interact with others in a more positive way. When available, students will participate in Yoga relaxation activities.<br />
<br />
At the same time, parents are involved in group learning of basic family leadership skills. Parents learn how to identify the goals of their children’s behaviors, and how to respond in ways that will lead to positive social skill development.<br />
<br />
Classes are held one day a week, either Monday or Tuesday, for 8 weeks.<br />
<br />
Our next class begins on March 23rd. 8-12 yr olds are on Monday and 4-7 yr olds are on Tuesday.<br />
<br />
Cost is $320 for the entire 8 weeks.<br />

Purpose<br />
To provide a therapeutic, supportive, and nurturing environment for children who have difficulty adjusting. Children with ADHD, Anger, Apsperger’s, and Behavior problems often benefit from camp. The children are encouraged to take responsibility for their behavior, develop coping skills, and get feedback - support from their peers and the staff.<br />

Day program to help children with behavior and socio-emotional problems develop and improve pro-social behaviors. Children are helped to identify deficits and set goals for themselves.<br />

Purpose<br />
To provide a therapeutic, supportive, and nurturing environment for children who have difficulty adjusting. Children with ADHD, Anger, Apsperger’s, and Behavior problems often benefit from camp. The children are encouraged to take responsibility for their behavior, develop coping skills, and get feedback - support from their peers and the staff.<br />

Description<br />
Day program to help children with behavior and socio-emotional problems develop and improve pro-social behaviors. Children are helped to identify deficits and set goals for themselves.<br />
<br />
Schedule<br />
Monday – Friday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm<br />
Before and after care available at additional cost.<br />
<br />
Ages<br />
5-13 year old boys and girls<br />
<br />
Cost/Funding<br />
$200 per week/per child. In addition, behavioral health insurance will be billed for therapies.<br />
Partial scholarships may be available. <br />
Non-refundable, one-time $25.00 registration fee required. Bag lunch needed daily. <br />
